The South Transept

Apart from the South wall, which was re-built in 1874, the stone -work here is  original Saxon. The South Transept was formerly used as a chapel dedicated to the Virgin as "Our Lady of Pity," and was known as "The Pity Porch." The wooden panel on  the South wall is a present day piéta.

High up on the West wall is an inlaid sounding board, or tester, from the original three –decker pulpit, used in the church in 1823.
